I gave birth to my son at University Hospital Wishaw on in mid-December 2020. I had an amazing experience and felt really supported by all the staff I encountered.
The community midwifes at Lanark were really supportive throughout my pregnancy despite COVID. Lynsey was my midwife and I saw Loretta too. They were lovely and made me feel at east, being my first pregnancy.
I was induced at nearly two weeks overdue. My induction was brought forward a few days as a scan showed a potential worry with the baby (he was luckily well and no concerns). The way we found out about this and got told was a bit blunt and I think now it was because not a lot was known about this!
However I was able to put these worries to the side because the midwives and doctors I saw during induction were so caring and supportive. The midwives ooze experience and made me feel calm throughout, even when I vomited everywhere when the new midwives came on shift! The junior doctors who saw my son to check him over due to the worries were excellent, reassuring and didn’t rush in as he was well.
I left hospital with my son and my partner feeling like we had a really positive experience and well supported. The midwives all had an amazing way of keeping me going and distracting me and helping me feel as relaxed as possible throughout. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else in the future.
I just want them to know how amazing they are, especially during covid - they made it seem so normal and gave me and my partner all the support we needed.
