"Supportive, informative, compassionate care"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

Unfortunately I had a miscarriage at 18 weeks after nearly two weeks of complications.  The care from the labour ward team and Dr McGowan was outstanding. Dr McGowan was very supportive, happy to make time to see and chat to myself and husband and answer any questions we had. He was not forceful in anyway and left decision making to us having explained all our options.  This was so invaluable in supporting us through the very difficult time.

Unfortunately we had to make the decision to end the pregnancy.  The labour ward staff were unbelievable. In particular a special thanks has to go to Senior Midwife Advanced Birth Practitioner Margaret - she deserves special recognition and thanks.  The care and support given to my wife and myself was above and beyond. Very caring, calm and informative. Such lovely care was given, not only to my wife, but myself as well.  Something that I feel was very special as males are usually forgotten about and all attention given to the females.  The support, tea, toast, chats mean more than we can express in words.  The care taken and shown when my wife had to deliver was above and beyond what we would have expected.  Time was taken whenever we needed it to answer any questions we had, to ensure we understood what the doctor had said and to make sure we were as comfortable as we could be.  Reassurance was given at all times and the care that Margaret gave will never be forgotten and means so much to us both.

Thank you Bigyin81 for taking the time to give us feedback at such a sensitive time for you and your family. I would like to start by saying how sorry I am for your loss.

It is important for us to hear that through what must have been such a challenging time for you both, you felt supported and able to make informed choices best suited to your individual situation.

We strive to provide person-centered care and this seems to have been well demonstrated in this difficult situation and hearing your partner felt involved is so important to us.

I will be sure to pass on your kind words to all the staff, this is really important to them.

Again, thank you for taking the time to provide such positive feedback at such a difficult time.

Kind Regards

Claire
