"Visit to Minor Injuries"

About: NHS 24 Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a service user),

I had to attend the new minor injuries clinic at the Queen Elizabeth hospital today after being referred there by NHS 24.

I sustained a chemical burn and was concerned id have to attend A&E where at a time like this made me incredibly nervous.

Instead I was told I could attend the new minor injuries unit. I have never felt as at ease as I did there.

The 3 nurses (1 physio, 1nurse and 1student) provided a whole new level of care. They weren’t rushed as they would be in a busy A&E environment. They had the time to have a proper conversation, put me at ease and made me feel like they genuinely cared. We even had a joke and a laugh. The nurses said themselves it’s a better experience for them too. Let’s help the nurses/doctors and keep life easier for them!

I hope they keep the new unit open for good and not just until Covid 19 ends.

Dear Octoberdf99,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I was sorry to read that you had injured your hand - from what you say, this sounds like a worrying and painful experience. I hope that you are now well on the way to recovery.

I was delighted to read that the teams from NHS 24 and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde looked after you so well at this difficult time - you're absolutely right that a proper conversation and a little laugh can go a long way in making a situation such as yours that bit less stressful.

If you would like to share any feedback about your call or calls to NHS 24, I would be delighted to read it and share it with the appropriate staff. If you would like to contact us with your details and the approximate date and time of your call, I can identify the staff who were involved in your care and share your feedback with them. You can contact me directly at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thank you once again for sharing your story. I hope that your hand is now much better.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Dear octoberdf99

Thank you for taking time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to your experience of attending the Minor Injury Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It was great to hear how the staff took the time to put you at ease and listened to your concerns which in turn made the whole experience that much more relaxed.

I'm glad that even in this difficult time the staff were able to make you laugh and raise a smile.

I will be sure to pass on your comments to all the staff involved and would like to wish you a speedy recovery from your burn.

Kind regards

Kevin
