"Professionalism and kindness after my funny turn"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Neurology (Brain, Spinal and Nerves) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was take to ARI Emergency Room from my home on Friday after being unresponsive & my husband called 999. Apparently the Paramedics were brilliant Gary & Colin plus the lady on the phone that talked my husband through about what to do & keeping him calm.

Colin & Gary explained everything to us both & asked my husband to get a bag just in case. The journey for me felt awful but do remember how good the paramedic was keeping me calm & comfortable. Once there nurses came to monitor me & get history of what had happened, I had another "funny turn". Sophia, Kendal, Krzystof talked to me & were very calming.

Amy a Physician Associate came & saw me talking me through what was going to happen tests etc, called my husband so he could fill in the gaps. A clinical fellow in neurology Dr Musa came again explaining all the time what he was doing, the nurse with him Rebecca was kind & kept me smiling.

While I was there watching all staff going about, all did so calmly & all with smiling eyes, and were adhering to covid requirements. Once I was allowed to go home, though this was around 10pm, again my husband was contacted & by 11pm I was leaving ARI. The outcome Dr Musa discussed what had happened, said he will write to my GP, gave me a 2 pamphlets to read.

I am left with questions which is the only down bit of my experience. Pamphlets can raise questions & with noone to ask them this can be confusing. A big thank you though to the professionalism, kindness and cheerfulness of the staff that night.

Dear Miss DMU,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch through Care Opinion to tell us about your experience.

I am very sorry to hear about your falling unwell. This must have been an extremely worrying time for you and your family, particularly your husband.

It is great to hear that you have found the help afforded by the ambulance service supportive and caring. The ambulance control room staff do a fantastic job taking the call, supporting the caller and at the same time the despatchers are identifying the most appropriate resource to send to you.

I am pleased that you received the care and compassion when Colin and Gary arrived and during your journey to hospital. Our frontline staff appreciate the importance of continual reassurance and explaining to the patient the care they would like to give.

I would like to ensure that the ambulance control staff and the attending crew are passed on your feedback, but to allow me to arrange for that, can I ask that you contact our admin team on 01224 812200 to pass on further details on the call, so we can identify it on our system and then identify the staff members involved?

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us and I hope you are keeping safe and well during these interesting times.

Kind regards,

Euan..
