"common sense"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

My 83 yr old mum was admitted to A+E. After treatment I got the call to pick her up to go home. It takes me a good 45 mins to get there and checking the temp on my car it was minus 3 and icy. (relevant). I took her wheel chair to the A+E and found mum in their wheelchair at the side of the door which automatically opened as people came through regularly. Mum cannot walk, was in flimsy P.J's with catheter hanging from her leg. Mum started to cry as she was so cold (no blanket). Mum had been there for over an hour at least. Thankfully I had brought a coat. Common sense should have prevailed. How stupid to put an elderly lady, unable to walk from a situation and no staff around to help. I had to ask for help to transfer mum to her chair and get her in the car. I had the heat on in the car for the remainder of the journey and she still had not warmed through on arrival to home. I understand with covid they cant wait to get rid of patients however, the next day mum ended back in the hospital. I am hoping they sort her out before jumping the gun to kick her out.
