In September 2020 my daughter 7 (at the time), had an online video call from a Dr from the hospital Whytemans Brae in Kirkcaldy. This was to find out if she is autistic as she has a number of traits, especially speech and language delay. We were put into a queue by the receptionist, then the Dr came on and started to speak to us, but unfortunately we had technical issues, the Dr couldn't hear what we were saying as i was using my older laptop. This technical issue also made us appear late as the receptionist tried to put us through a second time. This was very disheartening as we had waited over a year for our daughter to be assessed.
We heard nothing back, so her father phoned the local health centre who deal with pediatrics in our local area. We got a phone call back the following day to tell me that we had missed the appointment! I was very upset and confused as this was not the case. The person that spoke to myself was very rude and unsympathetic to the fact our daughter was badly needing a diagnosis. They also said my daughter would be going to the back of the queue as there are lots of children needing appointments. This left us feeling very let down and depressed. We just want someone to assess our daughter before her health and wellbeing and development are compromised anymore.
I am now very angry at the way i was spoken to that day and if i hadn't been so upset i would of remembered to take the staff member's name and position.
We just want our daughter to get the right amount of support she needs before she regresses further.
