Post menopausal bleeding-investigation advised. I was given the leaflet explaining the procedure, advised to have my lunch and take painkillers before the appointment. I have had a coil fitted in the past and did not take the recommended paracetamol then and so was aware of the momentary pain when the cervix is penetrated. So this time I was prepared, took Ibuprofen and paracetamol. The expert nurse who did the procedure also gave local anaesthetic to cervix she did not believe in doing it without. She explained everything before hand. I was nervous about it all, but relieved it was not the awful experience have read others suffered. (I am a women who has given birth twice, once with gas and air. People vary and others may need more pain relief options such as general anaesthetic, which is available, so do insist if you feel that would be better for you)
