Having been diagnosed with a cholesteotoma a month or so ago I took some time to think about it (operation is not without risk). Anyway I decided to go ahead, rang the consultants secretary last week and went in yesterday to sign consent forms. I was in and out in an hour; after seeing the consultant (Sean Carrie) who carefully explained the procedure and its risks once more, I was taken straight to pre-admission, had ECG, blood etc, MRSA screening etc and told that I would get a surgery date for sometime in the next 6 weeks or so. Everyone I came across was friendly and professional (special mention for Paula Dean, the staff nurse in pre admissions, and the ECG staff), the hospital spotlessly clean, and the whole process very reassuring. will write again post surgery, but, so far, so good!
