"Gynaecology procedure"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I received an appointment to attend within 2 days of a scan result felt a bit nervous about the outcome. Attended the gynaecology ward to be told I was having a procedure done when I hadn’t spoken to any doctor about the result or what was to happen.

On arrival I felt nervous as I am already receiving cancer treatment. The staff nurse met me and was very kind showed me to a side room and reassured me the doctor would explain everything . I waited a very short time when the consultant then the registrar spoke to me and explained everything about the procedure and why it was necessary.

On being shown to the room for procedure three nurses were very welcoming and put me at ease. The nurses took there time with me and explained every stage then the registrar explained every step he was taking and told me to say if I was sore or needed him to stop at any point. I found the whole experience extremely efficient the staff very calm and kind with every step.

I became tearful after the procedure just from relief of the positive outcome but one nurse in particular was very kind to me but the registrar also asked if I was alright. I have had many appointments and procedures done and this was one of the best I’ve experienced. I’m sure I was the last patient of the day as late in the day but did not feel rushed or feel as though the staff wanted to get home which I’m sure they would be.

Thank you so much to all the staff involved for making it a very positive experience.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback about the care you received during such an anxious time for you. I hope you are continuing to recover and I have shared your feedback with the senior nursing team so they can share with everyone involved. It is its always great to hear from such a positive experience and outcome and for colleagues to hear how their compassion and support has helped during difficult times.

Sincerely,

Debbie
