"My story is about my last stay in ward 45b"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital Pinderfields General Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

I was sent to ward 45b from ward 2, I felt terrible when arriving on the ward, but my mind was put at rest by the friendliness, and kindness of all the nurses doctors and other staff. It wasn't my first visit to the ward, I was on it a year or so ago,, but some of the nursing staff were the same and recognised me straight away.

From day one I  couldn't have been looked after any better, every nurse was first class, when I needed pain relief it came promptly, when I needed assistance to the bathroom due to finding it difficult to walk, again the nurses took me on a chair and brought me back when i pulled the buzzer.

I was really down due to feeling rubbish , due to the illness, and the fact my wife wasn't with me, but every single nurse , and other staff were wonderful, they always had a smile, and very up beat and joval.

They kept me smiling, and nothing was too hard for them to help me keep comfortable, If I needed help washing they helped me, and when I felt embarrassed  when asking for help with silly little things they reassured me that it wasn't a problem to them.

I'm a patient of LGI, but for some reason they never take me when I'm ill, but to be honest, Pinders is more relaxing for me to recover even though, my illness is something very different to what they usually deal with , it wasn't a problem, they continually helped me keep positive when i felt down, and even though the staff were worked off their feet they came promptly when I buzzed.

I was suffering with the amount of canulars I had to have in my arms, and the nurses knew straight away when they had gone, and very cimperfetic to the pain I was going through. At times i got myself worked up because of the pain the canulars caused, but the staff were their to help and nothing was too hard no matter how small, or petty it was.

To be honest, I don't have one single bad word to say about the staff, they were brilliant in every way, and I am very thankful  for everything they have done to get me well, and back home. It was a lonely time without my family visiting, but the staff did everything possible to help me through it and I'm very thankful. Hopefully I wont have to go back to hospital due to meningitis, but if I do, I hope I'm lucky enough to be on ward 45b.

Thank you very much, for taking care of me.

Dear Frank 45b

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and what such wonderful feedback you've provided.

It is heart-warming to read how you felt all of the staff involved in your care and treatment were supportive to your needs and were sympathetic to your pain management. It is important for all of our staff that they provide a high standard of care and treatment for all our patients and it is very clear, that this has been your experience.

I can only imagine how anxious you must have been feeling and I'm pleased that staff gave you the reassurance that you needed when you arrived on the ward. I'm sure being recognised by staff will have really helped alleviate those anxieties for you.

I will share your kind words with the team as they will be thrilled with your kind comments.

Thank you again and I hope you are recovering well.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
