I have engaged with the Change Grow Live charity, who provide various addiction services - I was in Cambridgeshire.
I recently completed the "Foundations of Change" program, where we met as a small group (~10 at peak) discussing our addictions and strategies to move forward.
I found the program extremely positive. The intervention worker, Ellie , was excellent. It was also an excellent place to meet other people going through the same issue in a small, personal environment. We've completed the course now, but I intend on remaining in contact with the people I met during it.
As a result of the current state of the world, this was entirely done via Zoom. Obviously in many ways this is less than ideal, but I actually found it to be very helpful - I work full time and while I have some flexibility in hours, being able to drop into a meeting for an hour a day online, rather than taking a significantly longer time away to go to something in person made engaging with the service much easier.
I would recommend this to anyone in the same situation. I cannot claim that I am now sober, but this has certainly helped me both reduce my consumption and given me strategies for achieving, and maintaining sobriety in future.
