"Accident at home"

About: South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

l was in the garden attempting to put up an new dovecot that l had just completed. I called my wife outside to tell me where she thought l should put it . As she was deciding l moved the dovecot and it toppled off the stand and the aluminium corner hit me on the bridge of the nose causing a cut to the right side of the nose about an 1" long. It immediately started to gush blood and it was obvious l needed stitches in the wound to stop the bleeding. My first reaction was jump in the car and get down to A &E. But l could stop the bleeding so my wife phoned the doctor to see if l could see the nurse or Doctor. But due to the Covid crisis l was told to phone 999. This l did and an Ambulance duly arrived. Matt and Chris . I was treated very professionally and both guys new exactly what to do and put both my wife and l at ease.  l was examined thoroughly and the wound was dressed prior to a visit from a paramedic. I was told he would either put stitches in the wound or stereo strip and glue it as they weren't equipped to carry out hat proceedure They then left the scene stating that if l should feel worse or the wound started to bleed again don't be frightened to call 999 again.

Some time later Mark the paramedic arrived again very polite respectful and very knowledgable . He washed the wound cleaning it and applied stereo strip and glued it. He then told me how l should care for the wound and what to do if any side effects or complications should accur.

These three young men are a credit to the NHS Ambulance service and l thank them very much for the assistance and treatment l received .
