A few weeks ago, my Mum who had severe COPD was quite unwell. A GP called to the house and decided she required hospital admission.
My Mum was admitted to ward 2 and then ward 12. Mum was diagnosed with an infective exacerbation COPD.
Unfortunately following a move to ward 12 my Mums health deteriorated further. Myself and my brother were updated on her progress and unfortunately it became clear that my Mum was too unwell and we knew she wouldn’t improve.
This obviously was terribly sad for us but what I want to make sure is conveyed is the way in which we were informed of her situation. The nurse was very caring and explained everything clearly and with empathy.
When it came to visit the ward to say goodbye the same nurse - C Coutts was so gentle and caring with my Mum and ourselves. It was so lovely for Mum still to be called by her first name.
At handover - nurse Coutts spoke to us again and made sure we had another nurse for support.
Despite Covid restrictions - we didn’t feel rushed but felt supported by the ward team which made a terribly sad time more bearable
