When I first started the long journey to recovery from alcohol addiction, I was very reluctant to participate in group sessions having always been a solitary drinker and by nature a solitary person. There is a sense of foreboding about letting other people into your life and sharing your problems, openly and honestly with them.
With Peter's encouragement, I was able to settle into the group more easily than I had anticipated and have benefited tremendously as a result, he's able to nurture a spirit of camaraderie and it's like a meeting with friends with whom we can all be totally honest and upfront about the issues we are facing - it removes the sense of loneliness and isolation which so often accompanies this addiction.
I have now achieved 8 months of sobriety, but I am not complacent and Peter's gentle nudges keep me focussed on my recovery.
