"Having a baby"

I was taken into University Hospital Wishaw in November 2020 to be induced. I was admitted into the prenatal ward where the induction process began. The staff in this ward were excellent, especially Gemma who I knew from a previous admission. She always had a smile on her face. 

I was taken to the labour suite where I met Louise who was on day shift. Louise could not have been nicer. She constantly kept us up to date on progress and explained exactly what was going on. The shift changed to night shift and Louise handed over to Charlotte who was with us until our baby boy was born, 2 days after being admitted. Charlotte was lovely. She filled us with confidence and again kept us informed at every step. She was a breath of fresh air with her smiley face. A student also joined us in the room. I am really sorry but her name escapes me but she was lovely. All three ladies kept everything so calm especially Charlotte who had to explain we needed to go to theatre. She kept a situation that could have been frightening quite the opposite. 

Kenny, the anaesthetist was fantastic. I first met him when I was in the labour room and again when I was taken to theatre. Kenny was extremely kind and constantly made sure I was ok during my Caesarean section ensuring I couldn’t feel anything. Everything was thoroughly explained to me before, during and after surgery. I felt extremely well cared for. 

I was later taken to the post natal ward and again I could not fault the staff. We unfortunately had to stay a little longer than expected which I was quite upset about. The staff recognised this and allowed for my husband to stay in a single room with our baby and I. I could not have been more grateful. Francesca, the midwife who was on day shift the majority of my stay was amazing. I felt she really understood why I was originally upset at the thought of an extended hospital stay  and genuinely cared. Just sitting chatting really meant so much. Morgan and Abi were the two midwives who looked after my baby and I during night shift. Both girls could not have been nicer. When I was in quite a bit of pain one of the girls suggested an ice pack on my wound. Something so simple made a massive difference and really helped soothe the pain. It sounds silly but I will never forget the relief it gave me. Morgan spent some time one night helping my baby take his bottle as I was struggling to get him to take much. I know how busy the staff are and I was so grateful she took the time to do this. 

I would like to thank all the staff for everything they done for my baby and I and bringing him safely into this world. I will never forget any of them and their care and compassion shown throughout our stay. They are all a credit to our NHS.
