I gave birth to our first baby in early January 2021 at Peterhead Maternity Unit and my husband and I cannot praise the ladies there any more highly, they were all amazing and so supportive.
I had phoned the unit for advice in the earlier stages of labour and was reassured and offered to come in for an examination, which we did for our peace of mind. Due to my labour progressing at that point, we were shown through to the Moonlight Suite which was such a relaxing and comfortable environment. The midwives caring for me were so supportive and encouraging (Georgia, Lynn, Wendy, Sandra and another lady that I unfortunately can’t remember her name), very nurturing and put me and my husband completely at ease. They kept us informed and we felt like we were in very safe hands. They also made a point of going through our birth plan to make sure our wishes were being met. Throughout the whole labour and birth, every single midwife caring for us were so lovely and it just made it all even more positive of an experience and it was exactly what we had hoped for. After we were discharged, we phoned the unit for advice on a couple of occasions and everyone we spoke to were so helpful and reassuring. I was struggling with breastfeeding and a home visit was arranged where we were offered extra support from Iona, which was really helpful. On another occasion after speaking to Ruth, she called us back later on and it felt really supportive her taking the time to check in on us. I am also really grateful to our midwife Hazel who was so lovely and supportive throughout the whole process, it felt like I was speaking to my mum she was so nurturing and caring. We just can’t fault the experience at all, it was just perfect and all the ladies at Peterhead Maternity Unit are amazing! :) I would definitely recommend having your baby at PMU and I would certainly hope to do so again with any future babies.
