In September of 2020 I fell and fractured my tibia and my knee and was placed in a leg brace for 12 weeks. Prior to this incident I was fully independent and still driving my car. For the first 6 weeks I was not allow to mobilise and was very dependent on my carers and family to assist me with all my daily needs. My biggest fear throughout the 6 weeks was that I was not going to be able to walk again.
Shortly after my fall members of the intermediate care services came out and introduced themselves and provided me with equipment which helped with my day to living but explained to me that they could not start my rehabilitation for 6 weeks (until I seen my consultant again and had an x-ray)
6 weeks later the team was back and my rehabilitation was commenced. From day 1 the staff were so positive that I would be walking again (it might take some time but it would happen). Day by day my confidence increased and I began to believe that this would happen. I was involved in all discussions with the team and together each week we set new goals - and all my personal preferences were taken into consideration.
I looked forward to seeing the staff each day and they always brought a smile to my face.
I am happy to say 7 weeks later the team were able to discharge me - not only was I able to go to my hairdressers I was also able to attend a wedding - and this was something I thought I most definitely would not have been able to do.
It all due to the dedication, positivity and excellent care this team provide and it is carried out with a smile on their faces (even under the masks!). They constantly encouraged me, gave positive feedback, pushed me when required and made me believe that I would be walking again - A big thank you to all of them
