"Telephone consultation"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Cancer Services North Devon District Hospital / Haematology

(as the patient),

I had a telephone consultation with the haematology department today and they asked me to give feedback. I would like to say that the appointment was like normal and was very well conducted. I have no complaints in the current circumstances. I am quite satisfied and was given time to ask questions if I needed to. The appointment covered everything needed but it is different from a face-to-face appointment, not quite as personal, though I have had several of these consultations over the past year and am satisfied with the service received.

My only concern is that I would like the consultant to speak a little more clearly, slowly and to introduce themselves at the beginning of the call, I sometimes am unable to catch the name as they speak their name and title so quickly, I miss the name. However, it is an extremely well run department and this is no criticism whatsoever.

I would like to add that while the telephone consultation went well, I would not like to see this become the normal and do prefer the old appointment system.

Dear whisperqs47,

Thank you so much for this feedback, it is so useful to have an insight into how patients feel these telephone appointments are.
I will feed back to all the Doctors and staff in our clinic so that that they speak clearly and ensure patients have heard them on any future telephone call consultations.

We do miss seeing patient in clinic and feel it is vital part of patients assessment in some circumstances. We hope that in the future we will be able to re instate some face to face clinic appointments, however please do not hesitate to contact us if you feel there is a need to be seen in person at future out patient appointment and we can discuss arrangements for this.

Best wishes
