"Triage nurse rude"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital

My husband attended A&E department at 1300 hours approximately today Sunday 17th January.

He was seen by the Triage Nurse who was very rude and told him off for attending the department when he should have contacted 111. My husband felt humiliated, uncomfortable and felt like a scolded child, he just wanted to walk out of the department.

We had considered calling 111 but did not want to take up resources, hence the visit to A&E with severe hip clicking pain radiating down to his foot.

I fully appreciate the pressures and demands on the services at the minute but when there is only 1 man and my husband in A&E she was not under any pressure. Also there was 1 ambulance at the door so it looked reasonably quiet.

Nurses are trained to treat patients with dignity and respect at all times, this being a requirement of the Code of Conduct and the NMC, professionalism is key to their role.

Whatever happened to good customer care? She needs to go on the Customer care course to improve that skill.

This situation needs addressing to prevent others being scolded by this unprofessional nurse.
