Spring 2019 I spoke to GP about a dark patch of skin on my face that had got bigger over 8 years. Went to dermatology, then for a biopsy. Confirmed as lentigo maligna. I was reassured that oral maxillofacial could remove it. Day surgery, local anaesthetic with sedation. Surgery November 2019 didn't remove all the affected cells. Further surgery June 2020, pathology showed still affected cells present, 3rd surgery October 2020 still affected cells present. 4th surgery December 2020, on my birthday. Delay removing stitches due to me catching Covid. When stitches finally removed Doctor told me pathology completely clear, no further sign of lentigo maligna! No further surgery required. Although the whole experience was quite traumatic staff in day surgery and in oral and maxillofacial were excellent, kind, caring, efficient. Everything was explained. I have a follow up appointment in 3 months.
