"Maternity Services - Southern Trust"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Maternity care South Tyrone Hospital / Antenatal care

(as a service user),

I found out I was expecting in early February 2020, just before the start of the Pandemic,  I was so excited but scared as I had suffered a miscarriage thr year before. With my first pregnancy I had gone with Private care  so I contacted my OBGYN in March, but unfortunately due to the unravelling story of Covid, he was not taking on patients.

I submitted my self referral for maternity care and promptly received a letter for my 12 week booking scan in South Tyrone Hospital, where I received most of my care. The midwives where amazing, offering reassurance, and completing all of the necessary checks. Everything went so smoothly. My little baba was breech the whole way through my pregnancy and at 36 weeks I met a consultant to discuss my options, having had a Csection with my first I elected for a second,  the consultant explained that all electives where being done in DaisyHill.

I attended DHH for my PreOp and Covid Test, and the midwives on duty where amazing too, real friendly and mummy like. I was booked in for mid November, and arrived to the ward at 7.45am, the midwives and health care assistants where so welcoming amd totally over compensated for the fact that my husband had to wait in the car and that I was on my own. The theatre team took their time with me prior to entering the room, they answered my husbands questions, and when I took a reaction in theatre they done everything to keep me calm and reassure me and my husband, they even to jokes and kept our spirits highly!! My beautiful boy was delivered at 2.21pm and we where moved to recovery where I was monitored and cared for and my husband got to spend precious time with our son, we where not rushed and whwen it was time for me to go to the ward my husband took us back up to the door before we said goodbye.

I was so nervous about how I would cope on the ward without my husband and visitors that I came when I had my daughter in 2015, but I shouldn't have given it a second thought, the South Armagh/ Co Down midwives where all like my own mummy,  warm and compassionate!!!

Everyone was amazing and even the food was great!! I was discharged on Friday,  but again not rushed I could have stayed another day if I needed the support,  but I was ready. My husband came to the ward door with my daughter and the midwife that walked me out was so good with my daughter.

Since being home, we've been back to South tyrone for our initial checks and had our health visitor complete her 2 visits.

Thank you for your kind words and I am delighted you had a positive experience with the birth of your son in Daisy Hill as well as your early care in South Tyrone. It is always reassuring to get such lovely feedback, the Southern Trust Midwives take great pride in the midwifery care they provide and I will share this with all the staff involved.

Thankyou so much for taking the time as a busy mum to write in to us especially during such a challenging time for everyone during the pandemic, it is even more appreciated at this time.
