"Feeling uncared for by reception staff "

About: Newton Surgery

I rarely call my gp and I have called twice recently to get a phone appointment as I have COVID-19 virus and long term symptoms and I have been made to feel bad for calling, like I'm wasting their time. These are the reasons I never call anyway to not disturb, and I brush off any ill health I'm experiencing. Reception did not give me a timing for my appointment the first time and the gp never called back, and they did not acknowledge their mistake for failing to give me an appointment after they said they would. Over 6 months ago when I last called, it was much easier to get an appointment and I felt heard and cared for. I dont know what happened, and it's very annoying. I have mental health issues as well which I stated I wanted to speak to my GP about but they wanted me to elaborate which I am not comfortable with and were trying their best to not give me an appointment. I feel I'm reaching out but this sort of behaviour from receptionists would push people in situations like mine over the edge and the pushers wouldn't know they've done it. My mum called on my behalf prior to myself calling as I was too sick and they were quite rude and did not give me an appointment. I loved this surgery when I joined in 2018 and experienced a real sense of care in the staff but I feel there has been a big change in the team and culture and now it is on the opposite end. I hope my gp actually calls today.
