I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with ovary and fallopian removal for atypical complex hyperplasia with high potential for cancer further down the line. From initial ultrasound referral through to MRI scan and consultations I was treated promptly and with empathy. My surgeon is extremely accomplished, responsive and personable, which has certainly helped my recovery and scarring. I stayed on Victor Bonney ward for 4 nights before Christmas and the care provided by all staff from housekeeping, catering, HCA’s nurses and drs was exemplary. I am very fortunate that I don’t have cancer but I also no longer have large fibroids which makes my life so much more comfortable.
I am not new to Queen Charlotte’s as I have been under the care of the menopause clinic for a few years. My experience here has been very positive too. For the first time ever my consultant took my symptoms seriously and devised a very individualised treatment plan. I’m not sure I’d be here to tell the tale had I not been referred to the clinic.
Finally I’d like to thank the admin staff and secretaries who are always very helpful and prompt in resounding to messages. Back office staff are often the unsung heroes but the fact that I was contacted at 7.45am on a Saturday morning shows how they too are doing their bit, particularly in such challenging times. The Patients Know Best record system certainly helps too.
The NHS isn’t perfect, but having lived in various other countries we are extremely lucky to have it, and Queen Charlotte’s a shining example of things can be done well. It’s as much about culture as care.
Please pass on my thanks and compliments to all staff working in gynae oncology, menopause services and on Victor Bonney ward and I wish them well, particularly during the arduous months to come.
"Can’t recommend highly enough"
