"My mother's death"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted with cellulitis (a common skin infection).

She went into Blackburn Hospital, caught pneumonia. I was told they would not resucitate her if her heart stopped. They administered morphine, this drug interferes with breathing. I believe my mother died as a result.

The doctor, when asked, stated well hospitals are the place to contract infections!

I have several more serious complaints that I will not bore you with.

We are extremely sorry to read the care received was not to the standard we would expect. We understand Hospital stays are an extremely anxious time for patients and their family. . Providing high quality care and giving our patients a positive experience is extremely important to our Trust. We take all concerns very seriously and will always undertake a full investigation. If any patient or their relatives have concerns we would always request they discussed them with a senior nurse or manager in charge. Alternatively you can contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALs) and they will advise on next steps. Their contact details are 0800 5872586.
