"My story is about my husband"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A3 Respiratory Belfast City Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a relative),

My husband had coronavirus he was in Antrim area hospital and in Belfast City Nightingale hospital The care he got in both hospitals was amazing the staff went above and beyond to help my husband and myself they kept informed every day when he was in icu which was a very scary time for me and my family   not knowing what was going to happen.

Then when he came of the ventilator and was moved to ward 8 south the care and attention he got from the doctors nurses physios occupational therapists and speech therapists was fantastic. The nurse rang everyday updating me on his progress. Our family is so thankful for everything that was done for Donald we are so happy that we have him home again after such a long journey and he is getting stronger.

We would also like to thank the family liaison team at Antrim area hospital for their kind and compassion shown to myself.

Dear Hotelbm95,

First of all, thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience as a relative. I can imagine that it was an extremely stressful time for your family, and I’m am so glad you found the staff supportive in helping to keep you all informed while your husband was in ICU.

I would like to pass on your comments to the team in 8 South, I know all the staff will be heartened by your kind words.

We know these are challenging times for both the patients and their families and I hope that having good communication from the nursing team in 8 South helped while Donald was away from you.

I’m so pleased to hear that Donald is home and getting stronger, and I hope that things continue to go well for you all as a family.

Best wishes.
