"Recovery - One day at a time"

About: Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire / Wisbech

(as a service user),

I have only been accessing help from CGL Wisbech for approx 1 week,

I was asked what I thought my expectations would be?

I answered honestly I expected it to be a really negative environment and experience, But now feel I want say my experience after 1 week is different from what I initially thought

As stated I am only 1 week in service, but have attended two sessions so far  the first being the welcome pod, which was a very positive experience. And today I attended my first recovery planning session with my recovery co-ordinator, which again was a very positive experience.

I expected to be told what the service expected of me, but I was asked what do I wish to achieve and how can CGL support me? I was left feeling so hopeful for my recovery to start to take a firm hold.

One day at a time I will feel now that I am not alone in this.

Hi JWEastwood

Thanks for sharing your early experiences here. Many people say the first step is often the hardest and you have done that so firstly, well done. This is your recovery. This is your future. We can help, guide and support you to achieve what you want to achieve. Its much better of the journey starts well so you are off to a great start. keep with it. there will be tough time but keep attending, keep talking to us and of course keep positive. We will help you to get that ongoing support from outside of CGL and true recovery happens out there in the community. You can do this. Many others have done it so why cant you? Ask your worker if you want to speak to a Peer Mentor. They are people within our service with lived experience who can also support you along the way.

I hope one day I bump in to you in our Wisbech office and you can let me know how things are going.

Paul
