"CT Scan"

About: Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

On arriving at my appointment I waited in the allotted area and was quickly called in. The staff were all curtious and friendly and scanning staff were efficient so no lengthy delays. However, waiting for my cannula to be taken out, I was directed to sit in a chair in X-ray reception, which was near a doorway. I was surprised to observe patients still attending appointments with their relatives, who were not disabled and fully cognitive. Given the Government advice and lockdown, I was disappointed and anxious to find myself “as a clinically vulnerable person” waiting in an area with relatives popping in and out, walking closely passed me and others waiting in a queue with partners. Another experience in Oncology last week proved similar, as a relative stayed in the ward even after being asked to leave and also sat in a patients chair for a while. I had a call from the hospital two days later to say there was a Covid case in this ward, fortunately on that day I was in a separate room. I did not observe any cleaning and a patient sat in the chair shortly after the relative left, without it being wiped down.
