"Women’s health - poor treatment"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as a service user),

Firstly University Hospital Wishaw - shame on you for moving your women’s health unit to basically a store cupboard with make shift rooms. As a woman I already feel awful as it is going through procedures there never mind being told to sit in a store cupboard whilst waiting on an appointment and have a store cupboard as a room without toilet facilities. Being forced to use commodes instead - how undignified for able bodied patients.  I know covid has caused a lot of challenges but patients are also dealing with other issues outwits covid which shouldn’t be downplayed as they have in this situation.

On entering I was pointed in the direction of a fully functioning store cupboard to wait, I wasn’t expecting it and asked just to make sure. Then the staff nurse who told me to sit there proceeded to chat to the other members of staff very loudly stating ‘in future should we just get them (the patients) to wait outside until it’s their turn, whenever I tell one of them to sit in there they look at it and say in here’ I then asked if there was a problem I could sit outside. I told them this procedure is difficult enough to go through without the staff talking about patients as though they are nothing.

This nurse then said to me, ‘aww I remember you from before’ I told them I had never been to the clinic before, they then argued with me and told me I was wrong I had been before.  I have never been before and if you look at my records you can verify that. What right does that nurse have to argue with me, what an uncaring and arrogant interaction. I feel a nurse with that type of unfortunate attitude should never be allowed to work within such a setting where women are needing empathy and some who may require comfort, both of which I can’t imagine that nurse demonstrating.

Unfortunately I never got their name but the staff nurse who clerked me in will know as they apologised on their behalf which they shouldn’t have to do.  The staff nurse who clerked me was lovely and made me feel a little more at ease.  I now dread to go back again on Friday as I fear that nurse will be caring for me, which is something that I will not allow to happen.  Please address this issue as I’m quite sure I am not the first patient to have an issue with this nurse.
