"A&E RAH Paisley"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Having tolerated some severe discomfort around my left hip area, for over 30 hours at home, I attended A &E at RAH PAISLEY.

The check in staff and triage nurse were very attentive and kind. I also noted they had one of the Care Opinion banners up in the main waiting area.

After a little while I was called through by a nurse and was left to change into a gown and was left to wait on a doctor.

I explained about the pain and the numbness felt over my hip area. The pain went round to the front of my pelvic area. The doctor asked me to stand and touched several areas of my back and hip. I flinched when they touched my hip. They asked me to lie down and lift my leg up and out, which I did without bother. They informed me that I most likely had osteo arthritis and to keep taking the dihydrocodeine I had at home for my fibromyalgia! I found it odd that no xrays were taken for that diagnosis. Also there had been many recent blood tests from my gp that would have been available on the system. I was however," to go and see my gp. " I think they confirmed that they were not interested. I think they spoke to me for 5 minutes maximum. I was so disappointed as I was there for a genuine reason and yet was treated with a total dismissive attitude.

My pain has gotten worse again but I will not be attending A&E again.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your feedback. I am so sorry that you felt that the doctor who examined you lacked compassion for your situation and did not listen to your concerns. Please be assured that this is not the patient centred approach to patient care that we aim for.

We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your concerns in more detail and if you feel that would be helpful, please feel free to contact me by phone on 0141 314 6891 or by email, linda.russell2@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

With best wishes,

Linda
