"Saved my elderly mum’s life"

My mum in her 80s had a sudden complete physical and mental breakdown - 2 months in NNU hospital with no progress, thank god she was seen by a psychiatrist in NNU hospital and was referred and (thankfully, despite funding cuts) eventually got a bed in Julian Hospital in Sandringham ward.

The psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, staff in Julian hospital worked so hard with my mum over 3 months. So, when she arrived there she was 4.5 stones and uncommunicative but after all their hard work, my mum was 6 stones and communicative.

I visited every day because I thought I was going to lose my mum - every time I witnessed truly amazing kind staff not only help my mum but also all the other elderly lost souls there.

If you are not a mental health practitioner or a patient, Julian Hospital is a very moving place to visit and makes you realise how lucky we all are and really puts your life into perspective as to what is important in life.

I will never forget Julian hospital and all the amazing staff - my mum owes her life to them, and I think we all need to be aware that any negatives are in the vast majority due to lack of funding and staffing - not by Julian Hospital but thanks to cuts by government and local authorities. It makes me very mad when members of the royal family bring awareness to the importance of mental health, yet it falls on deaf ears with regards to government and local health authorities who cut funds, shut down facilities and cut beds.

We have clapped for NHS staff during COVID but I would clap 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year to show my appreciation for all the hard work the staff put in at Julian hospital.

I will never forget them and will be forever grateful to them.

Thank you, Julian Hospital staff, for dedicating your lives to help those with mental health problems - where would we be without you?
