"Kings Mill Hospital Maternity ward"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I've been admitted twice to the maternity ward from the triage assessment unit on sherwood birthing unit (SBU) over the last 4 weeks.

Sherwood birthing unit were fantastic and very prompt with the treatment despite being rushed off their feet. However, once moved onto the maternity ward I was left disgusted with the care.

I was placed on a drip which had finished and was left beeping for 3 hours! the poor student nurse was getting clearly frustrated as she must have asked the midwife 6 times to be told each time "ill be 5 minutes to put up the next drip" I however was patient as I didn't know what their staffing levels or priority was on the ward but on two occasions when I went to speak with the midwife directly there was members of staff in the coffee room talking and doing paperwork  (not on their breaks as they were still sat in the room 2 hours later when I went out for a second time)

I had a drip bleeping at me for 3 hours, however this clearly is a regular occurance on the ward as after night staff went home I had another drip put up by the day staff midwife, the drip had to be temporarily stopped as I had to go down to scan when I came back up at 10.30 am the machine was left bleeping till 5.30pm! again I was told the midwife would be back in 5 minutes and the ward didn't reflect as busy to me 80% off the rooms were empty and the environment seemed very relaxed with staff doing paperwork at the front desk. Although I understand a lot happens behind closed doors.

Due to the bag of IV being sat there so long as the midwife failed to restart the IV, it actually had to be thrown half finished and a complete new bag put up.

I actually told the doctor I wanted to go home and felt better when I didn't purely so I could get away from the sound of a constant bleeping drip and the lack of care. To be told a midwife would be back in 5 mins for that to not happen on two staff rotations is ridiculous and I am concerned this is a regular occurance. The staff however were lovely, but I have never seen a ward so empty but yet care not being consistent. I have had similar issues when I was pregnant with my last baby in 2018.

Thank you
