I attended Highland Trauma Unit (ward 3a, Raigmore) for surgery following a car accident. I had to wait all day for the surgery, which was completely understandable as there was other trauma surgeries which took precedence. However there was no communication with staff to let me know what was happening. I spent the majority of the day in a chair with severe whiplash, no analgesia and 7 different members of staff took medical history which was unnecessary.
During the surgery, the staff were fantastic. The surgeon was great. The anaesthetist in particular was superb, the nurse in anaesthetics was fantastic and great banter!
However, following this I was taken to ward 3b where I was not given anything to eat, and was left for quite some time. A nurse there refused to give me a sling although the anaesthetist had asked for this (I was given a nerve block in my arm) and I highlighted the rationale for this. I felt as though I was an inconvenience.
A very disappointing experience, ward 3A and 3B were both a let down.
"Lack of communication"
