In 2018, my son developed a problem with his leg which caused him a lot of pain and meant he was unable to weight bear on the leg at all.
He was 11 at the time and it was very hard to watch him struggle with the pain and the practicality of not being able to walk.
We had several visits to A&E at RBHSC which never really got to the bottom of the pain and despite visiting in a lot of pain, there wasn't any real treatment and we went home frustrated every time.
It led to several review appointments at the fracture clinic having his joints assessed, but still didn't get to the bottom of it.
In the end, we managed to get seen by the physiotherapy team at the RBHSC, who couldn't have be better. They were so friendly, set him at his ease and thanks to the work of a lovely physio (whose name I can't remember, but she had dark hair) he was able to start mobilising his leg and within 1 month of starting weekly physio and time in the pool, he was able to walk without crutches or pain relief.
The problem has not reoccurred but we still have periodic check ups with the orthopaedic time which is very reassuring and means that we know that if there is a further issue, we will be able to get support quicker than originally happened.
Overall, although it was tough to not get answers, the teams were great at helping to rule out serious problems and communicated well what they were doing to monitor it, and thankfully after the physio intervention, he recovered well.
Thank you from a panicky and stressed out mum.
