"Poor Gynaecology Department "

About: Warwick Hospital

I’ve made the worse decision to choose to use Warwick Hospital Gynaecology. Please avoid this place if you can. My gynaecologist told me that I should use a certain treatment for my symptoms. I asked what the side effects were of this treatment and she told me there weren’t any. I asked again as this was clearly untrue, to which she responded that people don’t tend to get any side effects. She refused to answer the question properly. She told the medical student who was sat with us to advise me. I didn’t agree with the treatment method that was initially suggested due to the side effects and so I asked for alternatives, along with their side effects. The consultant again refused to answer and so the student provided me with 3 options and that allowed me to make an informed decision. It was also agreed that a hysteroscopy would be performed to carry out a biopsy as part of my treatment plan.

Then the student told me that a lump had been spotted on my ovary. The consultant made a gesture to the student as if to say that she shouldn’t have told me that. I’m glad that she did as the consultant had been trying to get me out of there before I was even told about this. I insisted that it was looked into further and initially the gynaecologist refused because I was ‘too young’ (under 30). I insisted and so it was agreed that it would be looked into.

My hysteroscopy was booked in for 5 months later. The day before my appointment I received a call to say that the equipment was broken. This was in August 2020. It’s now another 4 months later, totalling a 9 month wait, and still this hasn’t been rebooked.

With regards to the ovarian lump, well I insisted that this should at least be rechecked whilst I wait for the hysteroscopy. I recently had an ultrasound and the ovary couldn’t be seen, and it’s not the first time that it hasn’t been visible. To cut a long story short, I recently received a letter to say that the ovary appeared fine and the lump had gone. I know this is absolutely incorrect as the ultrasound didn’t manage to find the ovary to check it.

I’ve spent countless hours on the phone trying to chase my hysteroscopy. I honestly don’t think I have the strength to keep advocating for myself with the gynaecology team. They are completely incompetent. They fail to offer information. They fail to investigate things throughly and they send out the completely wrong information. I have no faith in this team whatsoever and I really wish there was a way for me to be seen by another hospital but from what I understand, I can’t swap. It’s awful.
