"I was hugely reassured by staff."

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I suddenly experienced mild stroke-like symptoms and following a call to NHS24 and assessment by paramedics/ambulance crew, was admitted to  Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock. Following a full interview explaining and discussing my test results,  I was discharged around 4pm the following day, with a comprehensive information pack and with further outpatient appointments to be arranged.

Recognising my symptoms I was feeling extremely anxious, but from the prompt arrival of the ambulance and throughout my time in the hospital, I was impressed by the comprehensive process of assessment, treatment and diagnosis. Just as important, I was hugely reassured by staff at all levels, who while carrying out their roles purposefully, kept me informed, responded to my questions, and showed empathy at all times.

Over and above the expertise employed to establish a diagnosis and course of treatment, the care and consideration provided to me stands out and I wish to express my gratitude and sincere thanks to all staff involved.

Dear papacs88

I am glad to hear your experience from all areas of care you received has gone some way to help you at what must have been a very worrying time.

It is always reassuring when we get comments such as yours and I am always keen to relay these directly to the staff involved. If you would be willing to send me some further information (your name, date of incident and address we responded to) I will ensure your kind words are passed on to the ambulance crew.

You can send me the information directly to: philipmeechan.mcaleer@nhs.scot

I do hope you're now on the road to recovery and thanks again for your kind words.

Kind regards

Phil.
