"Rowley Regis Blood Test Service"

About: Rowley Regis Hospital

Before COVID this service used to be very good but unfortunately I feel the NHS has forgotten how hard it is to attend appointments with elderly dementia patients who have no concept of time and expecting them to go in unaccompanied without a relative to help them. My father who is 94 years old with dementia and prostrate cancer was allowed in for a blood test without my assistance and because we were slightly late was refused the test. Dementia will be here long after COVID!

I am very sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation you and your father have had to deal with. As part of our visiting guidelines during the pandemic from its earliest times there have been provisions for those who require assistance owing to mental capacity. You should have been allowed to accompany your father and I would like to investigate this further. Could you please email the Communications team (swbh.comms@nhs.net) with details of your visit so they can liaise with the team caring for your father. You have my sincere apologies for this situation and hope that you have not had similar issues since this. If you require additional help in the future please let our teams know so they can attempt to assist further and make things easier for you both. With kind regards, Richard Beeken, Interim Chief Executive.
