I gave birth prematurely in Edinburgh via a crash section to my daughter who suffered major complications and died at 1 day old.
After being treated for retained products my partner and I were strong enough to back to our home in perth.
A few days after getting home I started experiencing dizziness, abdominal pain and at one point passed a large blood clot.
Because this was at the beginning of the first lockdown I called Ninewells triage first and explained my situation. The midwife seemed like they didn't care one ounce and told me I wasn't to come in, that I was dizzy because I had been bleeding, do some exercise and drink water.
Things got progressively worse, to the point I was in so much pain I would vomit and faint if I lifted my head off the pillow. That night I woke in bed to blood soaking through the mattress and pushing out blood clots bigger than my fist.
I was transferred from the local A&E to Ninewells gynecology ward where I sat in a bedless ward for over 4 hours, no help, or sanitary products or change of clothes. When I did get a bed I was dismissed by everyone and the Dr in the morning rounds first didn't even know I had been pregnant, then proceeded to refer to my daughter as a miscarriage.
The doctor told me I was having a heavy period and despite me soaking through maternity pads twice an hour, straining to pass blood clots and verbally saying I felt too unsafe to leave, I was discharged.
I was taken in a wheelchair to the ward door, given a bag of medication with no explanation and left to walk disorientated through the hospital with blood going down the back of my jeans and into my shoes to get to my partner's car.
I got home, kissed my older son goodnight and lay down in bed thinking that I was going to die because nobody listened to me.
It turned out I had an infection in the incision in my womb. It took 6 different courses of antibiotics to sort and I was on medication to stop me hemorrhaging for over a week.
I will never, ever go back to this hospital again.
