In area 4 waiting room, I was greeted by name by Anita - radiology assistant. She immediately put me at ease and took down my details - present medication etc. She told me that Dr. Lyall, the consultant would appear in a minute. He was as friendly as Anita and they clearly had a good working relationship.
Dr Lyall showed me the problem on ultrasound and diagnosed a rotator cuff tear. He explained how this involved the long head of the biceps, which had ruptured many years ago, and that other muscles would try to take up the slack.
He spent time and care discussing the pros and cons of a shoulder injection and I agreed to have it. He warned that it might be painful but he would use local anaesthetic and that Anita would talk to me throughout so I would not notice any pain.
This is exactly what happened - five minutes later, Dr Lyall was removing the drape and told me all was done - I literally felt no pain at all.
Three days later, I am feeling the benefit of the injection with a greater range of pain-free movement in my shoulder.
The care I received from everyone in Radiology was friendly and professional. Very many thanks.
