About: Devon Partnership NHS Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

Very quick referral to the Depression and Anxiety Service (DAS).

But poor quality initial assessment. ( badly trained? lacking experience? ) I'm severely depressed, but they go & discharge me from their service and shove me to another service that I have to wait another month to see.

I can't see why they cannot give me some support while I'm waiting to be referred to another service.

I'm sorry I'm ill, but I'm getting iller while waiting for yet another referral.

We are really sorry that after a promising start the quality of care you experienced seems to have gone off track. This is something that worries us and we want to do our best to put that right. Our Depression and Anxiety Services (DAS) work on a stepped model, many people with less sever depression than you describe go on to prompt treatment at the first step. When the needs of someone exceed the level at which people at the first step are trained to, the next step is a more 'high intensity' service. Without knowing more about your specific details, it sounds like this is what is happening to you. Our plan in all DAS referrals is the quickest possible assessment to the right service for you. Sometimes this takes a little longer than it should. If you are able to share your details, and the details of the team you saw, with our PALS Team, we can look into what we can do to ensure your next appointment is made as quickly as possible.
