"A nurse who went above and beyond"

I just want to say a huge thank you to Elaine, assistant practitioner who has cared for my little boy in the high dependency unit at Edinburgh Sick Kids for the last two nights.

I was unable to stay with my son all the time as I have two young daughters at home. As well as being highly competent with my son's medical and personal care, and super-organised, Elaine went above and beyond to keep my son happy and entertained when I could not.

She read him stories, sang songs with him, and even searched through the files on his iPad to find pictures and videos of his sisters so that he could remember them. She treated him like a little boy as well as a patient, and that is not always something that happens in hospital. She not only made him happier, she made me feel better about leaving him too.
