My 87 year old mother was admitted to GRI mid July - she was initially admitted to HDU & ITU before being transferred to Ward 8 and Ward 30.
It was a difficult time for the family, due to visiting restrictions as a result of Covid, but this was further compounded early September when all visiting was stopped.
We then had to rely on phone calls / updates with ward staff and Facetime / Zoom video calls with Mum. The nursing staff on ward 30 were terrific - they would contact us whenever Mum was awake to do Facetime calls, and verbally update us with any progress Mum was making.
My family and I thank all staff involved in the care of Mum, particularly the nursing staff of Ward 30 who seemed to intuitively make those calls to us for video contact with Mum. As difficult as it is for us during Covid restrictions you become aware that for the nursing staff they go above & beyond nursing care during these difficult times, they really got to know Mum.
Speech & Language services, Physiotherapy & Medical staff demonstrated Multi disciplinary team working at it's best! Thank you all!
