"Dependency/ongoing recovery support"

About: Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire / Huntingdon

(as a service user),

I realised I had a problem with alcohol few years back and reached out for help as it was affecting my life in many ways negatively, I was referred to Huntingdon Inclusion (now CGL)

From day 1 onwards I have had ongoing support, ranging from 1: 1 support, structured groups, peer support, therapeutic groups, out of hours support, I have been through many challenges, vulnerable situations, crisis, relapses, I have had and am still receiving excellent support, I have been to detox/ rehab earlier in the year my keyworker and the team, made this happen for me from preparation stage all the way through.

I however since relapsed end of June this year, once again fully supported by Cgl every step of the way, I went for a detox and am receiving after care with Cgl face to face and via zoom. The Cambs recovery service is also fantastic with many zoom groups from recovery cafe, media power hour, wellbeing, quiz and so much, Cgl and Cambs recovery service users are listened to 100 percent and we have a service user forum weekly   or us to say what’s good, what’s not and suggestions of new groups/activities we’d like to see, we do see results and positive outcomes.

I cannot thank Cgl enough for all they do for me and others, once upon a time I couldn’t see any light. I am fully valued and treated with respect and dignity, everyone is freindly and approachable. A lot of the workers have lived experiences which I believe is a true asset as they have been where we are and can relate and that in itself is inspirational and encouraging that recovery is possible 🙂

Hi Sobriety

A huge thank you for taking the time to send this through. It seems like you have experienced so much during your time with us and gained so much along the way I am sure. Detox and rehab is hard work and takes commitment. What is really pleasing is it seems you are throwing yourself into lots of different support we can offer. I'm sure you are getting support outside of CGL which is also crucial.

The whole lived experience debate within services is one I am passionate about. we really believe in this approach in Cambridgeshire. We have a diverse staff team with a range of personal and professional experiences which we feel benefit our service users. Those with lived experience add so much and we are always looking to add to our Peer Mentor workforce so if things continue to go well for you, maybe you could think about it.

Take care and keep working hard at your recovery!!
