"Hip replacements"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Pontefract General Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

About four five years ago. One of my hips got very sore and painful was sent to pontifract hospital for cortisone steroid injections in hip.

It seemed to work for a while then started going about three times a year

In 2019 pain got very severe pain other hip started to get severe as well saw so I saw specialist who told me they should not have been giving me injections for so long, as my hips were so bad I need new ones.

Before I got appointment walked out of house and hip must of given in and woke up in hospital with head and face injuries. So was put on hold for opp. Then was it was cancelled.  then was supposed to be done this nov then cancelled because of Covid and nobody knows when it can be done. In extreme pain cannot walk laid in bed a lot.

No quality of life to enjoy.

Dear Badnyboy

Thank you for your email and I am sorry to read of your experience. I cannot imagine how much pain you must be in and it is unfortunate that your surgery has had to be postponed.

I would like to offer you some reassurance that the Trust is currently clinically reviewing and prioritising all of the patients awaiting surgery. Unfortunately, with the increase in coronavirus cases the Trust is in a period where difficult decisions have to be made and we are aware of how incredibly distressing this must be for our patients; however these decisions are also being made to ensure our patients safety during the current climate. As I am sure you will appreciate this is an ever evolving and difficult situation for everyone.

The service will be in touch with you as soon as they have a date planned for surgery and again, offer my apologies that your surgery has had to be postponed.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
