"My Magnificent and genuine down to Earth GP"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Monklands

(as the patient),

My Magnificent and genuine down to Earth GP who knows her stuff

I am a manager, someone who is always seen as in control, i have had many mental health issues over my 51 years but when i contacted Fiona my new GP as my previous GP at Blairgrove surgery for 38 years had stopped, my mental health for the first time in 51 years felt real.

Fiona is down to earth on the level with her patients, can speak to all of us in different ways and from a West of Scotland background can really relate to her patients. My first online session ever with a doctor and my first real visit to the doctor for years, the session itself was a prescription to great health.

I continued to suffer a number of issues and slowly started to get better but the secret was always i knew Fiona knew her stuff and i knew i had 100% confidence in Fiona.

I work in a hospital and i do many initiatives for mental health not least invest in mental health first aid courses, but i have never had someone invest in my mental health not even my work and Fiona made it real as well as invested a lot more time than i was due under appointments process.

All of my issues were started by a work situation which is still ongoing but nearing the end in the next few days, i wanted to thank Both Fiona at Waverley Practice in Coatbridge and Karen from Salus occupational health in Monklands, without these people i would be in a terrible hole, the same hole i was in back in June, As i say i still have the work issue but it is no longer a black hole in my head and life is great, even although i still have the ongoing situation, that would not have been possible at anytime in my life without these two people but especially when i have such a difficult situation ongoing.

I am unsure i expressed this enough, as people see me as always being in control and a leader, i was in the depths of despair and these two strangers who feel like friends helped me, especially Fiona, in old terms, she has a bedside manner like no other in the world and her family and friends must be proud to call her family.

Thank you so much and hopefully i get good news this week, if not, i will cope.

Dear Gogs11

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. I was sorry to hear that you have been suffering from some mental health related issues, but pleased that with the help of your GP, Fiona and also Karen from Salus, Occupational Health Service you are now able to cope much better. We recognised that having access to these services is a great benefit to patients. Staff really appreciate when patients recognise the service they provide and I will ensure that your comments are passed onto the staff you have praised.

Best wishes for the future and thanks again for sharing details of your experience.

Kind regards.
