I just want to give you some positive feedback about my recent experience of GP services and the Flu vaccination programme this year, as I'm sure you will have been inundated with complaints.
I live in North Lanarkshire and care for my elderly mother who, until recently lived alone in Northern Ireland. She decided to relocate and move in with me so I could care for her properly and help reduce both of our worries and anxieties around COVID-19. She has a number of health issues, severe COPD being the most significant issue. With winter approaching, both my mum and I were concerned she would not receive her flu-vaccination as she was not registered with a GP practice here.
Last week, I contacted my GP surgery to enquire about registering my mum (Adam Avenue Practice in Airdrie). They informed me about a waiting list for new registrations at the practice. I explained the concerns I had about my mum, which they took on board and advised they would register my mum given the circumstance. This was such a relief for both myself and my mum. I must commend the team at the practice for going above and beyond, helping to reduce our worries.
My mum was needing a refill for one of her inhalers and was concerned she would run out before she could see a GP here. I spoke with the practice and was asked to bring down her repeat prescription so they could arrange for this to be ordered and collected at our local pharmacist. I took down her prescription this morning and was advised this would all be arranged and sent to the local pharmacist tomorrow - A lot quicker than I anticipated! When I got home from the practice, there was a letter addressed to my mum with her appointment to get her flu vaccination next Monday morning. I was astounded at how quickly this was arranged, given she only registered with the GP practice last week. I just want to thank NHS Lanarkshire and Adam Avenue Practice for helping to reduce the worry and anxiety my mum and I had about switching GP practices and getting her flu jab. This has taken a huge weight off my mums' shoulders. She is looking forward to getting out of the house on Monday for her flu jab, so much so that she is currently choosing an outfit to wear for the occasion!
