"Midwife led unit"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

I had my daughter back in September in the midwife led unit. What a lovely place to have your baby. We were welcomed in and shown straight to a room which had low lighting, the pool already filled and some music on. It was close to shift change when we arrived but nothing felt rushed.

At shift change we were introduced to a student midwife called Ruth and a midwife called Sarah. They were both fantastic. Ruth was leading my care and all I can say is she was amazing. She explained everything so well to my husband and I. Nothing was too much bother when I was asking for something. She was so calm and reassuring. Sarah was also great. My daughter was born in the early hours of the morning and they were great at looking at me and my husband. He was even offered some tea and toast. They gave us a good with our daughter before being put through to the ward where my husband had to leave straight away and got a time slot to come back to visit.

The ward were also great, help was given with feeding when asked. We were very lucky and discharged home 12 hours after she was born but there was no pressure to go home. I was given the option to transfer to Elgin for some support as I am from moray ( I chose to head straight to Aberdeen for my labour).

A big thank you to all who looked after us so well.

Dear New Moray Mum,

Firstly let me congratulate you on the birth of you daughter and thank you for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback.

The staff in the midwifery unit have worked really hard to make the environment as calm and as welcoming as possible.

Ruth and Sarah will be delighted to hear that the care they provided hit the mark and also that your husband felt cared for too.

The wards can be really busy but It is reassuring to hear that you felt well cared for, even with the restrictions placed on us due to Covid 19.

Lastly as a new mum coming from Moray, this must have added an extra layer of anxiety for you and your family. I hope with you taking the time to show how good your experience was, will help reassure others who may choose or be required to give birth in Aberdeen.

Best wishes

Liz
