"Delivery of our first baby and stay in hospital"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I was admitted to the borders general hospital one Saturday in September to be induced after having signs of pre eclampsia. After three lots of gel and the balloon my waters were finally broken on the Tuesday. Our daughter arrived at 23.38 that evening by forceps delivery. I had a traumatic time after the birth and had to be rushed to theatre and put under general anaesthetic to have my placenta removed after loosing 2.5L of blood after the delivery. I received two blood transfusions while I was in hospital. I got discharged on the Friday.

I had to contact Ward 16 again a week later for help due to severe constipation. I spoke with Christina on the phone who spoke with Margaret and advised me to come back into the hospital so they could help me. They both helped me so much that night as I was in absolute agony. I cant thank them enough and the care I received that weekend was outstanding.

Margaret, Nicole, Kerry, Alexa, Cammie, Helena, Christina and the rest of the staff you are all fantastic. You managed to keep a smile on our faces through a traumatic time and we cant thank you all enough for the outstanding care you gave us throughout our time in the hospital. Margaret and Cammie went above and beyond and called me a couple of nights at home to check up on us and ask how I was. You have know idea how much this meant to me knowing how much they all cared it really did cheer me up and meant the world to me. You are all absolutely fantastic

Dear MARM2909

Congratulations on the birth of your duaghter and thank you for providing such lovely feedback.

Induction of labour can be a slow process and it sounds like your labour and delivery was traumatic for you, but nice to know you felt the staff supported you and made you feel safe during this time.

We aim to provide person centred care, which you have experienced by the staff that cared for you. I will ensure your feedback is shared with the staff you have mentioned.

I hope you have settled into family life and enjoying being a new Mum.

Thanks again

Kirsteen Guthrie
