I had bowel surgery in October under Ms Shaikh who is one amazing surgeon. After my surgery I moved to ward 206, where the after care and support from the nurses were beyond amazing. I was doing really well until 5 days post op I became septic.
Amy one of the nurses on 206 sat with me most of the night when I became really unwell. My heart rate went extremely high, and my blood pressure started to drop drastically. I continued to vomit large amounts despite having an NG tube in. Lots of doctors started coming in, and this made me very anxious but Amy and Aiofe the nurses continued to reassure me and continue to get me ice (I went through so much ice on the ward!!) I can't remember the name of the doctor from intensive care who came to see me, but he was absolutely amazing! He reassured me, took various blood tests, explained to me everything that was going on. I really wish I could remember this doctors name, but he made me feel at ease at such a scary time.
He then decided that I may need to move to intensive care or high dependancy.. after taking some bloods, I was sat up in bed brushing my teeth at 3am! The doctor couldn't believe what he was seeing, he expected me to be lying not saying very much, although my numbers were all over the place I felt okay.
I was sent for a CT scan and moved to SHDU through the night, where I had fantastic nurses Noomh, Becky and Claire. These girls stayed with me, reassured me, helped me, comforted me when I was at my worst and made an anxious time in SHDU a bit more easier. Nothing was ever a problem for the nurses, while in SHDU I would say i went from bad to worse as I was septic and also was trying to fight CDIFF infection as well as an ileus I had developed. Between the vomiting, high heart and low blood pressure and feeling so ill all I wanted was my dad. The nurses were amazing, being there for me every hour of the day.
4 days later, I was progressing well enough to move back down to ward 206. I continued to recover on the ward and without the nurses this wouldn't be possible. All the nurses were fantastic, some of them who helped me on my road to recovery were Amy, Aoife, Amy, Emily, Dean, Jodie, Sheryl, Carly, Ali (and her singing) Cerys, Lucy.. I apologise if I have missed anyone out these are the names I can remember. From the bottom of my heart, please pass on my thank you to Iain and the doctor who seen me from ITU the night I became unwell, All the nurses in 206, Becky, Claire and Noomh from SHDU, and all the general surgery doctors who looked after me. You are all a credit to the NHS!
