My daughter was seen by a wonderful Speech Therapist in December 2018 as both her father and I suspect she has Autism. She has siblings diagnosed so are well aware of the traits and behaviours. Speech Therapist carried out all the assessments required to be done and agreed that she should be referred onto Paediatrics for further investigation.
Our Consultation was by phone and again the Dr we spoke to was really understanding of our concerns and agreed that going by the Slt report and her difficulties it would be good to get her assessed. We were told in the Dr's report too she had been referred for this to the CAS Team. After seeing a post by NHS last week explaining the current situation regarding the Diagnostic Pathway I called to find out if it was the CAS Team or the new ND Team list she was on. On doing so I discovered that she is not actually on any waiting list after all although it was both agreed by both professionals. I totally understand that Covid has paused a lot of these services. What I am disgusted at is the fact she has done just under 2 years on the waiting lists so far and to hear she didn't get referred to the relevant list 9 months ago when she should have is heart breaking.
For most there is no rush for a diagnosis but my daughter has been out of Education for months before Covid, a lot of professionals within her school fail to understand her needs and as her mother I feel a diagnosis really is now needed to get the correct support in place.
