"Out of hours"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as the patient),

Phoned NHS 24 to report severe abdominal pain (6 months pregnant) and was phoned back by GP who directed us to the local hospital on Arran. On arrival at approximately 2330hrs I was seen immediately by staff nurse Lindsay and then Dr Kerr who examined me and gave me the care I needed. They gave me a hot pack which was very helpful and advice to see me through to my ferry journey the next day with the option to return if needed. I had my appendix removed 3 days later.

Hi September 2020

Firstly, congratulations on the impending arrival of your baby. How exciting!

I'm sorry to learn you were unwell with abdominal pain and I hope you are doing so much better following surgery to remove your appendix. Having to undergo an appendectomy would be a daunting prospect for most people, however for you, being six months pregnant, I'm sure brought additional worries. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

The staff who managed your care at Arran sound as though they did a great job in making you feel comfortable. Here at NHS 24 we clearly recognised that you needed further care and made arrangements for an Out of Hours GP to call you. If you wish to share any specific feedback about your call to 111, then I would be delighted to hear further from you. You can contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again for sharing your experience. I am sure my colleagues within NHS Ayrshire & Arran will be delighted with your kind comments.

Take care

Shona

Dear September 2020

Many thanks for your feedback on your care on Arran. I can imagine this would have been a very worrying and anxious time for you. I will make sure that Staff Nurse Lindsay and Dr Kerr get your lovely feedback and so glad they were able to give you the reassurance, care and advice you needed.

I hope all is well. You must be looking forward to your new arrival!

Take Care

Ruth
